ITT: Intraventricular Hemorrhage Thrombolysis (r-tPA) Trial

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) occurs in approximately 22,000 people every year in the United States. Previous studies have shown that IVH is a significant and independent contributor to morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, there is currently no satisfactory treatment of IVH.

The purpose of the ITT is to assess the efficacy of intraventricular injections of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) in improving the outcomes of external ventricular drainage in patients with IVH.

Eligible Participants

(1) ages 18 years – 75 years
(2) More than 12 hours post bleed
(3) Hematoma size stable by CT scan
(4) Post-IVH catheter CT scan
(5) Able to begin study within 24 hours of bleed
