Ischemia from vasospasm has become the leading cause of death and disability in SAH. This is a non-randomized, cross-sectional, prospective study to assess the effectiveness of acetazolamide-activated SPECT for predicting delayed ischemic deficits from vasospasm in postoperative patients with aneurysmal SAH.

Potential subjects include male and non-pregnant females ages 18-80, who have sustained an aneurysmal SAH confirmed by CT or lumbar puncture and angiography. In addition to receiving standard clinical treatment protocol for SAH, subjects will have a SPECT scan 4 to 7 days after their SAH. The ability of activated SPECT to predict delayed ischemic defitis from vasospasm will be compared to that of transcranial Doppler.
